Goodwill pricing for membership periods

Goodwill pricing lets you change the price of upcoming billing periods for one recurring member. Use it for a service recovery, retention offer, individually agreed discount, or another exception that should not change the membership product for everyone.

In the portal, these adjustments are managed under Discounted periods. They can make one or more future periods free or give them a fixed, tax-inclusive price.

Goodwill pricing does not itself pause the membership. Benefits, reservation rights, and access remain available unless the membership is separately paused or otherwise restricted.

When goodwill pricing is available

You can add discounted periods when the selected member:

• has a recurring membership;
• has not expired;
• still has a future billing period to process;
• has at least one fixed-contract period remaining, when the membership is fixed-term.

The option is not available for one-time memberships, expired recurring memberships, or fixed contracts with no periods remaining.

Goodwill pricing can still be added while a recurring member is in a billable termination period, as long as a future period remains. This can be useful when you have agreed to reduce a required final charge.

Add free or discounted periods

1. Open Products → Memberships.
2. Open the membership and select Members.
3. Find the member and choose Manage member.
4. Open Discounted periods.
5. Under Add free or discounted periods, choose a Discount type:
   • Free periods create zero-price renewals.
   • Fixed price charges the amount entered in Discounted price per period.
6. Enter the number of Billing periods.
7. Select Add discount.

The price is tax-inclusive and applies separately to each selected billing period. The period count must be at least one.

The new entry appears in Pricing order. It does not change a charge that has already been created.

How pricing order works

A member can have several temporary prices. Thril uses active entries in the order they were added.

Example:

1. Introductory pricing: 2 periods at €30
2. Goodwill pricing: 1 free period
3. Goodwill pricing: 2 periods at €40
4. Normal recurring price: €60

The first two charged renewals are €30 each, the next is free, and the following two are €40 each. Billing then returns to €60.

Adding a new goodwill price does not replace or jump ahead of an existing introductory or goodwill entry. Review Pricing order before promising which renewal will receive the new price.

Pricing statuses

Each entry also shows the number of periods remaining and whether its source is Introductory pricing or Goodwill pricing.

When a discounted period is used

One period is used when Thril creates the recurring renewal charge at the temporary price.

Fixed-price period

The renewal is created at the fixed amount. If the payment later requires customer action or fails, the outstanding payment retains that amount. The discounted period is not restored.

Free period

Thril creates and completes a zero-value renewal. The membership advances normally, and one discounted period is used.

For a fixed-term membership, both fixed-price and free goodwill renewals count toward the contract. Goodwill pricing changes what the member pays, not how many periods they owe.

Pauses and goodwill pricing

A pause uses a goodwill period only when recurring billing continues and a renewal charge is created.

If a charge is skipped, the goodwill entry remains in Pricing order for the next renewal that is actually charged.

A benefit-only date pause can therefore use a discounted period even though the member cannot use membership benefits during those dates. Confirm whether billing should continue when arranging the pause.

Deactivate an unused discount

Select Deactivate beside an entry that is Next to use or Upcoming, then confirm Deactivate discount?

Deactivation:

• prevents every remaining period in that entry from being used;
• leaves past renewal charges unchanged;
• does not refund a charge;
• does not remove the entry from history;
• moves the next active entry, or the normal price, to the front of the order.

You cannot deactivate an entry after all of its periods are used. If the next renewal charge has already been created, deactivating the entry does not recalculate that charge.

Goodwill pricing during termination

When a member has cancelled but still has billable termination periods, goodwill pricing can reduce those future charges.

Example:

Termination period: 1 final renewal
Goodwill pricing: 1 free period

If the goodwill entry is next in the order, the required final renewal is processed at zero price. The period still counts as the termination period, and the membership ends afterward as scheduled.

Ending or cancelling a membership pause is handled separately. A previously scheduled payment pause may be removed when termination begins so that required notice-period billing can proceed; goodwill pricing can still determine the amount of an eligible charge.

Example: one free service-recovery period

Normal price: €50 every 30 days
Goodwill pricing: 1 free period

The next charged renewal is zero. It still advances the membership by 30 days and counts toward a fixed contract when applicable. Later renewals return to €50. If an older introductory or goodwill entry exists, that older price is used first.
